My Dear Friend,

My partner, you may be behind bars, but certainly you have not been forgotten. Somehow, some way, you received this simple letter which I pray will give you a ray of hope. Hope, you see, cannot be brought or sold. Someone shared a ray of hope with me while sitting in the county jail, looking at 10-20 years. While attending a church service in a max security prison, again I received a ray of hope, and a willingness to try. I remember bowing my head asking the Lord, “If ever you can use me, I want to be used by you.”. I wanted something different; I wanted to be free indeed, not only physical freedom do I speak about, but free in my heart, my mind, my life; to be happy, joyous and free… Do you know what I mean? I know you do; for I too was right where you are today.

They released me one day from that tiny prison cell behind that 40 foot wall of concrete and barbed wire. You see, I was free now by society’s standards. Paid my debt to the State for the wrongs I had committed. But I was still powerless to overcome wrong choices or thinking in my life, so now sometime later I found myself sick and ready to die in a small hospital room. The doctors couldn’t help me. Prison didn’t change me. Who had the answers to this quest for true freedom? The darker the night my friend,t he brighter the light. Another beacon of hope came into my life. A pastor knocked on my door, asked if he could come in, I accepted. He asked if he could pray with me and I said yes. About two hours later I knelt down int he middle of my room and prayed these words: “Dear Jesus, please help me. I want to quit but I can’t.” Wasn’t no long sinner’s prayer, but friend, it was for real. Please call upon Him today and He will do for you what is impossible by society’s standards. He frees us starting on the inside. He lifts the burdens of guilt and shame; in it’s place He offers pardon, peace, and forgiveness, instilling into our life purpose and meaning, giving us a new direction now with a solid foundation.

I have 13 years clean and for the past 12 years the Lord has given us the opportunity to make some small gift packages to distribute to those in county jails and prisons… It is my prayer that this visit with you will project a ray of hope unto your life; for I know without a shadow of doubt the Lord will also answer your heart’s plea and desire for freedom from all the pain and unmanageability that the sin problem within our world today has caused deep pain within all of our lives. He, my friend, has promised to create within us a new heart, with new desires and direction. He is standing at the door of your heart today, knocking, asking you for permission to take your burdens of distress and woe, tenderly calling, “My dear child I love you, I will help you, I died for you. Come unto Me and I will give you rest. Take up your cross and follow me.” You can do all things throughout Christ which strengthens you. Ask and ye shall receive, seek and ye shall find, knock and it shall be opened unto you.”

Jeremiah 29:11-13 says: For I know the thoughts that I think towards you, saith the Lord. Thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

Please, my friend, He is the only source of hope. He has helped me, He will help you too. I promise you He will, for He is true, faithful, loving and kind to us, His children. He cares so much for us that He gave His Only begotten son Jesus, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. Let us partner together in service to our Heavenly Father and our fellow man. I am looking forward to meeting you personally int he Kingdom of Heaven. What a day that will be! PEace and joy with Jesus forevermore, Amen… My life shortened to a few words unto you.

As we together live in these closing moments of Earth’s history, I’ve found the best attorney in the whole wide world. Money cannot retain his service to set us free from the death sentence sin has caused in our world today for the human race. But you see, it’s about a surrendered heart; a life broken and empty. He will come in, mind the brokenness, heal the wounds, make the blind to see, the deaf to hear again, and the lame to not only walk, but to run, sharing the good news, that Jesus is alive and He lives within our heart. Giving us daily the power to grow in wisdom and stature and favor with God and man, dying daily to self, the old inclinations will be replaced with the good, the pure and the positive… The power of God allowed to live within our life will transform our life unto the likeness and character of CHrist.

Freedom? For real my friend, I’ve found the key to true freedom and I’ve been privileged to share it with you this day through tis simple means of a letter. You may be behind bars, but you are certainly not forgotten, for you see, we have been graven upon the palms of His hands and He has our best interest in mind and has the ability to carry it out as we allow Him to be our Attorney, our guide, and the Captain of our ship. He, the Lighthouse, will guide us safely unto the harbor of eternal life, our home awaits you and I in the Kingdom of Heaven.

The Lord will equip you to carry this hope that burns within my heart unto others, that they too may taste and see that God is good. We here at Christmas Behind Bars wish you God’s rich blessing until we meet again. Write to us, we try to always respond to your letters personally.
